Scottie Scheffler Shoots Course Record 62 to Take Four-Shot Lead at TPC Sawgrass Championship
The world No. 1 carded 10 birdies in a flawless third round to distance himself from the field at one of golf most challenging venues.

Scottie Scheffler produced one of the finest rounds of golf in recent PGA Tour history on Friday afternoon at TPC Sawgrass, firing a course-record 62 that featured 10 birdies and no bogeys to take a commanding four-shot lead heading into the final round of The Players Championship with one of the most dominant performances ever witnessed on the Stadium Course.

The 27-year-old world No. 1 was in complete control throughout his third round, displaying the combination of precision iron play and confident putting that has made him the most consistent player in professional golf. Scheffler hit 16 of 18 greens in regulation while needing just 25 putts on the notoriously difficult putting surfaces that have challenged generations of professional golfers.

That was one of those special rounds where everything just clicked perfectly, Scheffler said after signing his historic scorecard. The conditions were ideal today, and I was able to execute my game plan flawlessly. TPC Sawgrass is such a demanding golf course that rewards precision, and I felt like I was in complete control of my ball striking all day long.

The record-breaking performance moves Scheffler to 16-under par for the tournament, four shots clear of defending champion Rory McIlroy and five ahead of rising star Ludvig Aberg. The previous course record of 63 had been shared by multiple players, but Scheffler round stands alone as the finest single-round performance in the 50-year history of The Players Championship.

Scheffler round was highlighted by a spectacular eagle on the par-5 11th hole, where he holed a 45-foot putt that sent the gallery into raptures and established him as the clear leader. His ability to navigate the challenging Stadium Course without a single dropped shot demonstrates the kind of peak form that has made him the overwhelming favorite for next month Masters Tournament.

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan was in attendance to witness Scheffler historic round and praised the American stellar play during an impromptu interview. What Scottie accomplished today was truly special, Monahan said. To shoot 62 at TPC Sawgrass, one of our most demanding venues, shows why he is considered the premier player in professional golf right now.

With an 18-hole lead and momentum firmly on his side, Scheffler appears poised to claim his second Players Championship title and further cement his status as the sport dominant force. His recent form has been exceptional, and a victory on Sunday would give him tremendous confidence heading into the Masters, where he will attempt to win his third green jacket in four years.

Saturday final round promises to be a fascinating conclusion to what has been an outstanding week of professional golf at one of the sport most prestigious venues outside of the major championships.
