Nelly Korda Shoots 65 to Take Two-Shot Lead at LPGA Drive On Championship
American star posts seven-under-par round at Superstition Mountain Golf Club to lead after first round in Arizona.

Nelly Korda positioned herself perfectly for another LPGA Tour victory on Monday, shooting a bogey-free 65 to take a two-shot lead after the first round of the LPGA Drive On Championship at Superstition Mountain Golf Club in Gold Canyon, Arizona.

The world No. 1 was in complete control throughout her seven-under-par round, making seven birdies including four consecutive on holes 5-8 that established early command of the leaderboard. Korda's putting was particularly impressive, as she needed just 26 putts on the challenging desert layout and made several crucial par saves to maintain her bogey-free scorecard.

"I felt really comfortable out there today," Korda said after her round. "My ball-striking was solid, and I was able to capitalize on the scoring opportunities when they presented themselves. The course is in fantastic condition, and if you can hit it in the right spots, there are definitely birdies out there. It's just the first day though, and there's a lot of golf left to be played."

Jin Young Ko and Brooke Henderson sit tied for second at five-under par, both posting excellent rounds in ideal scoring conditions with minimal wind and perfect Arizona sunshine. Ko, the former world No. 1, made six birdies and one bogey in her opening round, while Henderson's bogey-free 67 included a spectacular eagle on the par-5 15th hole.

The tournament field is particularly strong this week, with 15 of the world's top 20 players in attendance as the LPGA Tour continues its West Coast swing. Defending champion Lydia Ko struggled in her opening round, shooting 71 to sit six shots behind Korda heading into Tuesday's second round.

Korda's dominant start continues her excellent early-season form, as she looks to build on her victory at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions in January. The 25-year-old American has been the tour's most consistent performer over the past two seasons, and her commanding position after one round suggests she may be ready to add another trophy to her collection. With perfect weather forecast for the remainder of the week, low scores are expected to continue, making every shot crucial in what promises to be an exciting championship race in the Arizona desert.
