Braelon Allen's late 22-yard touchdown run helped the Jets beat Cleveland 17-12 in heavy rain. New York's defense recorded eight sacks as the Browns' three-game winning streak ended.

The New York Jets beat the Cleveland Browns 17-12 at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, with Braelon Allen scoring the decisive touchdown after a late mistake on a Cleveland punt. The victory moved New York to 2-3 and left Cleveland at 3-2, ending the Browns' three-game winning streak. Both clubs' official match reports confirmed the result and the turnover that set up the winning score.

Cleveland led 12-10 when punter Corey Bojorquez failed to control the snap with a little more than four minutes remaining. New York recovered at the Browns' 23-yard line, according to Cleveland's report. Three plays later, Allen broke left on third-and-nine and ran 22 yards for a touchdown. The Browns subsequently turned the ball over on downs while trying to regain the lead.

Allen finished with 116 rushing yards on 24 carries, his first career 100-yard rushing performance, the Jets reported. New York's defense also played a central role, sacking Deshaun Watson eight times. Rookie edge rusher David Bailey accounted for three of those sacks. Cleveland's own report put its offensive production at a season-low 198 net yards, with 13 first downs in the heavy rain.

The Jets had taken the early lead through Geno Smith's 32-yard touchdown pass to Garrett Wilson on their opening possession. Wilson finished with seven catches for 104 yards, while Smith completed 17 of 30 passes for 182 yards. Cleveland answered with two Andre Szmyt field goals before Jason Sanders' 54-yard kick extended New York's advantage to 10-6 early in the fourth quarter.

Watson then found Denzel Boston for a 29-yard touchdown to give Cleveland its first lead. The Browns created another opportunity when Carson Schwesinger forced a Smith fumble and Adin Huntington recovered near midfield. But New York forced a three-and-out, leaving Cleveland to attempt the punt that produced the decisive change of possession. The Jets identified Trevin Wallace as the player who recovered Bojorquez's mishandled snap.

Cleveland's defense had generated opportunities throughout the contest. Former Jets linebacker Quincy Williams finished with 11 tackles and three forced fumbles, according to the Browns, including a hit on tight end Kenyon Sadiq that stopped a promising New York possession. Those interventions kept Cleveland competitive, but the late special-teams error left its defense protecting a short field against Allen.
