Emma Raducanu Upsets World No. 1 Iga Swiatek to Reach Miami Open Semifinals
The British sensation defeated the defending champion 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 in a thrilling three-set encounter to reach her first WTA 1000 semifinal since 2021.

Emma Raducanu produced the upset of the tournament Tuesday afternoon, stunning world No. 1 Iga Swiatek 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 to advance to the semifinals of the Miami Open in what represents her biggest victory since capturing the 2021 US Open title.

The 23-year-old British star played fearless tennis throughout the two-hour and 47-minute battle at Hard Rock Stadium, consistently stepping inside the baseline and taking the ball early to disrupt Swiatek's rhythm. Raducanu's aggressive returning and pinpoint accuracy from the back of the court proved too much for the Polish defending champion.

"I can't believe it right now," Raducanu said during her emotional on-court interview. "Iga is the best player in the world, and to beat her here in Miami means everything to me. I've been working so hard to get back to this level, and today it all came together perfectly."

Raducanu started brilliantly, taking the first set with a combination of powerful groundstrokes and clever drop shots that caught Swiatek off guard. However, the world No. 1 responded in typical fashion, raising her level significantly in the second set to level the match with more aggressive play from the baseline.

The deciding set was a masterclass in mental toughness from both players, with neither giving an inch until Raducanu secured the crucial break at 5-5. The British player saved three break points in the 11th game before converting her fourth match point with a stunning cross-court winner that brought the Miami crowd to its feet.

Swiatek, who had won 23 of her previous 24 matches, was gracious in defeat but clearly disappointed with her performance. The 24-year-old had been seeking her third consecutive Miami Open title and will now need to regroup quickly ahead of the upcoming clay court season.

Raducanu will face either Jessica Pegula or Petra Kvitova in Thursday's semifinal as she looks to reach her first WTA 1000 final. The victory marks a significant breakthrough for the former world No. 10, who has battled injuries and inconsistent form since her stunning US Open triumph nearly five years ago.
