Moore’s early finish had put Phil Parkinson’s side in position to begin the new league campaign with three points. Wrexham then created opportunities to extend their advantage, struck the woodwork twice and carried the greater attacking threat, according to the BBC report. Cardiff remained within one goal, however, leaving the contest open deep into stoppage time.
The decisive sequence began after six minutes of additional time had been displayed. George Dobson fouled Joel Colwill near the end of that period, giving Cardiff one last set-piece opportunity. Rubin Colwill converted it to level the match, with the goal recorded in the eighth minute of stoppage time.
Parkinson said afterward that Wrexham had failed to make enough of their chances. He acknowledged that Cardiff goalkeeper Nathan Trott had made saves but argued that his team should have placed the game beyond the hosts before the late equalizer. The manager also said Wrexham could have handled the closing stages more effectively.
The Wrexham manager nevertheless questioned how the officials arrived at the initial allocation of six added minutes. His frustration covered both parts of the result: the time that allowed Cardiff to mount a final attack and his own team’s failure to build on Moore’s early goal. Neither issue changed the outcome, as the points were shared.
The draw leaves both clubs with one point from the opening round of the Championship season. For Wrexham, who finished seventh in the division last season, the performance offered evidence of attacking danger but no winning start. Cardiff’s persistence, and Colwill’s late execution from the free-kick, secured a result after the hosts had trailed for almost the entire contest.
