Scott McTominay cleared to rejoin Napoli training after heart procedure
Watch Highlights
Napoli say Scott McTominay has passed medical tests and resumed group training after his September heart procedure. A return against Frosinone has not been confirmed.

Scott McTominay has resumed training with Napoli's first team after medical tests cleared him to play following a heart procedure. The club confirmed the development on Wednesday, October 7, saying the Scotland midfielder had rejoined his team-mates after a period of individual work. His return follows an absence that also kept him out of international action.

Napoli's latest training report said further diagnostic examinations had established McTominay's fitness for competitive football. The clearance allows him to move beyond the separate training programme he had been following, although the announcement did not confirm when he would next appear in a match. ANSA reported that the club's medical staff would continue monitoring his condition.

The 29-year-old underwent an ablation procedure at Spire Manchester Hospital on September 8. In its announcement that day, Napoli said the operation had succeeded and outlined a rest period of about two weeks before a return to training. BBC Sport reported that the treatment followed the discovery of a mild benign arrhythmia, an irregularity in his heartbeat.

According to the BBC, McTominay had been withdrawn after 56 minutes of Napoli's 2-1 Serie A defeat by Como in August. His subsequent absence extended to four Scotland fixtures, including Tuesday's Nations League loss to Slovenia. Scotland's next matches are against Switzerland and North Macedonia in November, providing the next scheduled international window after the games he missed.

Napoli are preparing to host Frosinone at the Stadio Maradona on Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 20:45 CEST. Wednesday's afternoon session included possession exercises and a small-sided game, according to the club. Its update also confirmed that Kevin De Bruyne and Giovanni Di Lorenzo had returned from their national teams as preparations for the league fixture continued.

Whether McTominay will be included in Massimiliano Allegri's squad for Frosinone remained uncertain in ANSA's reporting. The confirmed step is his medical clearance and resumption of group training, rather than a promised appearance this weekend. Napoli's statement supplied no playing-time target or confirmed date for his first competitive outing since the procedure.
