Portugal’s federation has suspended Cristiano Ronaldo for 30 days and fined him 255 euros. The matches covered and treatment of his provisional suspension remain unclear.

Cristiano Ronaldo has received a 30-day suspension from the Portuguese Football Federation following his departure from the national team camp. BBC Sport reported on Monday that the federation's disciplinary council upheld the charge against the Portugal captain in full and also imposed a fine of 255 euros. The decision follows an earlier provisional suspension.

The practical scope of the punishment remains uncertain. According to BBC Sport, it was not clear which matches or activities would be covered, or whether the time Ronaldo had already spent provisionally suspended would be credited against the 30 days. Those unanswered questions mean the decision does not establish a confirmed date for his return to international action.

The dispute concerned Ronaldo's role under Portugal coach Jorge Jesus. In its earlier reporting on the disciplinary case, BBC Sport said the forward left the squad after remaining on the bench against Norway and learning he would not start against Denmark. Ronaldo subsequently issued a lengthy statement accusing Jesus of failing to honour commitments about his involvement.

BBC Sport's report on Monday said Jesus denied that he had reached an agreement with Ronaldo. The coach nevertheless remained open to the forward returning. Ronaldo had apologised to supporters and teammates and accepted that his conduct warranted punishment, while the federation's president expressed a desire to see the captain back once the matter was settled.

The federation had imposed its provisional measure on 9 October and treated the case as urgent, BBC Sport reported at the time. That earlier report said federation rules allow a suspension of between one and six months, alongside a fine, for a player who does not report for international duty or leaves the national team.

Ronaldo has not announced his retirement from Portugal duty. BBC Sport's earlier account said he had confirmed his intention to continue internationally despite the dispute. The 41-year-old, a five-time Ballon d'Or winner, has helped Portugal win the European Championship in 2016 and two Nations League titles. Any return now remains subject to the disciplinary situation and selection.
