The margins remained narrow across the leading group. Oscar Piastri qualified fourth for McLaren with a 1:11.666, leaving him 0.099 seconds off Russell's benchmark. Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli took fifth in 1:11.794, while Red Bull's Max Verstappen was sixth after recording 1:12.094. Lewis Hamilton completed the first seven places for Ferrari with a 1:12.191.
Leclerc had led the opening segment with a 1:13.011, followed by Norris and Piastri. Russell progressed in sixth at that stage. The six drivers eliminated in the first segment were Oliver Bearman, Carlos Sainz, Lance Stroll, Valtteri Bottas, Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso, who will fill positions 17 through 22 on the sprint grid.
Piastri set the pace in the second segment, posting a 1:12.026. Norris was second in that phase, one thousandth of a second ahead of Leclerc, while Russell advanced in fourth. Liam Lawson, Yuki Tsunoda, Franco Colapinto, Nico Hulkenberg, Esteban Ocon and Alexander Albon were eliminated and classified from 11th to 16th.
Russell then found the decisive improvement in the final segment. Norris and Leclerc both came within six hundredths of a second, but neither displaced the Mercedes driver. Behind the top seven, Pierre Gasly qualified eighth for Alpine, Gabriel Bortoleto took ninth for Audi and Racing Bulls driver Arvid Lindblad completed the top 10.
The result sets the starting order for the Dutch Grand Prix sprint rather than the main grand prix. Russell will share the front row with Norris, with Leclerc and Piastri directly behind them on the second row. The classification was confirmed by Formula 1's official results service following Friday's sprint qualifying session.
