Manchester City Extends Premier League Lead with 3-1 Victory Over Arsenal
Erling Haaland's brace helped Manchester City defeat Arsenal 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium, extending their lead at the top of the table.

Manchester City strengthened their grip on the Premier League title race with a commanding 3-1 victory over Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Friday evening. Erling Haaland continued his prolific form with two goals, while Kevin De Bruyne added a third as City extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points.

The Norwegian striker opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, converting a perfectly weighted cross from De Bruyne with a clinical finish into the bottom corner. Haaland doubled City's advantage just before halftime, capitalizing on a defensive error to slot home his 28th league goal of the season.

Arsenal showed resilience in the second half, pulling one back through Gabriel Martinelli in the 58th minute. The Brazilian winger's curling effort from the edge of the box gave the Gunners hope of a comeback and temporarily shifted momentum in their favor.

However, City's championship experience shone through in the final third of the match. De Bruyne settled any nerves with a sublime free-kick in the 74th minute, curling the ball around the wall and into the top corner to restore the two-goal cushion. The Belgian midfielder's moment of brilliance effectively sealed the three points for the defending champions.

"We knew this was a crucial match in our title defense," City manager Pep Guardiola said after the final whistle. "The players showed tremendous character and quality when it mattered most. Erling and Kevin were exceptional tonight."

The result leaves Arsenal in second place, but their title hopes now appear increasingly distant with just 12 matches remaining in the season. City's victory was their eighth consecutive league win, demonstrating the form that has made them nearly unstoppable in recent months. For Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, the focus now shifts to securing Champions League qualification and building for next season.
