Daniil Medvedev Defeats Casper Ruud 6-3, 7-6 to Reach Dubai Championships Final
Russian former world No. 1 overcomes Norwegian challenge in straight sets to advance to Dubai Tennis Championships title match.

Daniil Medvedev advanced to his second Dubai Tennis Championships final with a commanding 6-3, 7-6(4) victory over Casper Ruud on Monday, showcasing the consistent baseline power that has made him one of tennis' most formidable hard-court players.

The Russian former world No. 1 was in complete control throughout the first set, breaking Ruud's serve twice while never facing a break point himself. Medvedev's aggressive return game and precise groundstrokes from both wings consistently pushed the Norwegian out of position and created numerous scoring opportunities.

"I'm really pleased with how I played tonight," Medvedev said after the match. "Casper is always tough, especially when he gets into rhythm from the baseline, but I felt like I controlled most of the rallies. My serve was working well, and I was able to dictate play when I needed to."

The second set proved more competitive as Ruud elevated his level significantly, using his powerful forehand to create break opportunities and extend rallies. The Norwegian had multiple chances to level the match but couldn't convert crucial break points at 4-4 and 5-5, allowing Medvedev to force a tiebreak.

In the tiebreak, Medvedev's experience and clutch serving proved decisive. The 28-year-old Moscow native won the first four points and never relinquished control, closing out the victory with a service winner down the middle that left Ruud stranded at the baseline.

Medvedev will face either Jannik Sinner or Stefanos Tsitsipas in Wednesday's final, seeking his first ATP title of 2026 and his second Dubai crown. His path to the final has been impressive, dropping just one set throughout the tournament while defeating several seeded opponents. The former US Open champion appears to be finding his best form at the perfect time as the season's biggest hard-court tournaments approach.
