Manchester City Stuns Real Madrid with Late Champions League Comeback
Erling Haaland scores twice in final 15 minutes as City overcomes 2-0 deficit to defeat Madrid 3-2 in thrilling Champions League knockout clash.

Manchester City produced one of the most remarkable comebacks in recent Champions League history, overturning a 2-0 deficit to defeat Real Madrid 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium in their Round of 16 first leg encounter.

Real Madrid looked to be cruising to victory after goals from Vinicius Jr. and Jude Bellingham put them 2-0 up with just 15 minutes remaining. However, Erling Haaland had other plans, scoring twice in the span of seven minutes before Kevin De Bruyne completed the stunning turnaround with a curled effort in the 89th minute.

"This is why we love this game," City manager Pep Guardiola said after the match. "Football can change in seconds. The players showed incredible character and belief. Erling's performance tonight was simply exceptional, but it was a team effort from start to finish."

The match started tentatively, with both sides showing respect for each other's attacking capabilities. Madrid took the lead against the run of play in the 34th minute when Vinicius Jr. latched onto a through ball from Luka Modric and finished coolly past Ederson. The Brazilian winger doubled the lead in the 67th minute, capitalizing on a defensive mistake from John Stones.

With City facing the prospect of a mountain to climb in the second leg at the Bernabeu, Haaland stepped up when his team needed him most. The Norwegian striker pulled one back in the 75th minute, heading home from a De Bruyne cross, before equalizing just seven minutes later with a brilliant solo effort that saw him dance past three Madrid defenders.

De Bruyne's winner came from a move that started with Haaland's pressing in the Madrid penalty area. The Belgian midfielder received the ball 25 yards from goal and curled a sublime shot into the top corner, sending the Etihad Stadium into raptures and leaving Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois with no chance.

"We know Madrid never gives up, so we must be ready for the second leg," De Bruyne warned. "But tonight gives us confidence. We showed we can compete with anyone when we play our football."

The return leg at the Santiago Bernabeu on March 5th promises to be another classic encounter between two of Europe's finest teams.
