Djokovic Withdraws from Dubai Championships Due to Injury Concerns
Serbian star pulls out of ATP 500 event as precautionary measure ahead of upcoming Masters series.

Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from next week's Dubai Tennis Championships, citing ongoing concerns about a minor wrist injury that has been bothering him since the Australian Open. The 24-time Grand Slam champion made the announcement during a press conference in Belgrade, stating that he wants to prioritize his long-term health over short-term competition.

The Serbian star, currently ranked No. 1 in the world, suffered the injury during his semifinal victory over Alexander Zverev at Melbourne Park last month. While he managed to complete the tournament and reach the final, where he lost to Jannik Sinner, the injury has continued to cause discomfort during practice sessions.

"It's a difficult decision because I always love playing in Dubai, and the fans there have been incredible to me over the years," Djokovic explained. "However, my medical team has advised that taking this time to properly address the issue now will prevent it from becoming a more serious problem later in the season."

The withdrawal is particularly significant as Djokovic was scheduled to face rising star Carlos Alcaraz in what many considered a potential semifinal showdown. The 36-year-old had won the Dubai title five times previously and was looking to add to his impressive record at the ATP 500 event.

Djokovic's absence opens up the draw considerably for other contenders, with Alcaraz now becoming the clear favorite to claim his first Dubai title. The young Spaniard has been in excellent form this season, winning titles in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro, and will be eager to capitalize on this opportunity.

Tournament director Salah Tahlak expressed disappointment but understanding regarding Djokovic's decision. "While we're naturally disappointed that Novak won't be joining us this year, we completely respect his decision to prioritize his health," Tahlak said. "We look forward to welcoming him back to Dubai in the future."

The Serbian legend indicated that he plans to return to competition at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells next month, where he will begin his preparation for the clay court season leading up to Roland Garros. His team expects the wrist issue to be fully resolved by then, allowing him to compete at full intensity as he pursues his 25th Grand Slam title.
