Djokovic Advances to Dubai Championships Quarterfinals After Straight-Sets Victory
Former world number one defeats qualifier in dominant fashion, setting up potential semifinal clash with Carlos Alcaraz.

Novak Djokovic continued his strong start to the 2026 season Thursday, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships with a commanding 6-3, 6-1 victory over qualifier Aleksandar Vukic at the Aviation Club Tennis Centre.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion looked sharp throughout the 87-minute encounter, breaking serve four times while facing just one break point on his own delivery. Djokovic's return game was particularly impressive, as he won 47% of points on Vukic's serve and converted four of seven break point opportunities.

"I'm feeling good on court right now," said Djokovic after the match. "The preparation during the off-season was excellent, and I can see the results of that work. Dubai has always been a special tournament for me, and I'm excited about the matches ahead."

The Serbian star will face eighth-seeded Hubert Hurkacz in Friday's quarterfinal, with the winner potentially meeting second-seeded Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals. Alcaraz earlier dispatched Italian Lorenzo Musetti 7-5, 6-2 to reach the last eight.

Djokovic's victory marks his 12th consecutive win in Dubai, where he has claimed the title five times, most recently in 2023. The 38-year-old has yet to drop a set in his three matches this week, extending his winning streak in the emirate to 15 matches dating back to 2022.

The match showcased Djokovic's tactical acumen and court coverage, as he dictated play from the baseline while mixing in well-timed approaches to the net. His first serve percentage of 71% kept Vukic under constant pressure and allowed him to control the majority of rallies.

Hurkacz, who defeated Alexander Bublik in straight sets earlier Thursday, presents a different challenge with his powerful serve and aggressive style. The Polish player has won two of his four previous encounters with Djokovic, including their most recent meeting in 2021.

With the Australian Open just weeks away, Djokovic's form in Dubai will be closely watched as he seeks to add to his record Grand Slam tally in what could be one of his final campaigns at the sport's highest level.
