Lakers Trade Shocks NBA as Russell and Hachimura Head to Miami
The Los Angeles Lakers have completed a blockbuster trade sending D'Angelo Russell and Rui Hachimura to the Miami Heat in exchange for Tyler Herro and draft picks.

The Los Angeles Lakers have sent shockwaves through the NBA with a stunning trade deadline deal that sends guards D'Angelo Russell and forward Rui Hachimura to the Miami Heat in exchange for Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson, and two future first-round draft picks.

The trade, announced late Tuesday evening, represents a significant shift in strategy for the Lakers as they attempt to maximize their championship window with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Russell, who was having a solid season averaging 17.8 points and 6.2 assists per game, had become a key contributor off the bench for Los Angeles.

Miami Heat President Pat Riley orchestrated the move as part of the franchise's commitment to building around their young core. Tyler Herro, the centerpiece of the deal heading to Los Angeles, brings explosive scoring ability and has been averaging 21.4 points per game this season while shooting 38% from three-point range.

"This trade gives us the versatility and scoring punch we need for a playoff run," said Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka in a statement. "Tyler's ability to create his own shot and stretch the floor will be invaluable alongside LeBron and AD."

The Heat, meanwhile, gain valuable depth and experience in Russell, whose playoff experience and clutch shooting could prove vital in the Eastern Conference race. Hachimura adds size and athleticism to Miami's frontcourt rotation, providing the versatility that head coach Erik Spoelstra values in his system.

Both teams are expected to be active before Thursday's trade deadline, with the Lakers potentially looking to add more depth pieces and the Heat exploring additional moves to complement their new acquisitions. The trade officially processes pending physicals and league approval.
