WTA Finals move to Indian Wells as Middle East disruption reshapes sports calendar
The 2026 WTA Finals will take place at Indian Wells in the United States rather than Saudi Arabia after the parties agreed to end their hosting arrangement early, BBC Sport reported. The change to the women's season-ending championship comes amid widespread disruption to sporting events in the Middle East, with organisers across several sports revising their schedules.

The tournament is due this weekend, according to the BBC's report. Its relocation means the women's tour finale will no longer be staged in Saudi Arabia under the existing agreement. The decision is distinct from the response taken by organisers of the Six Kings Slam, whose men's tennis exhibition in Riyadh has been delayed rather than moved out of the country.
The Six Kings Slam, which had been due to begin on Saturday, has been put back by two months and is now scheduled for 27-30 December. It remains set for the ANB Arena in Riyadh. Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz and Learner Tien are the six players listed to take part in the rescheduled event.
Golf has also lost a scheduled event in the Saudi capital. The PIF Saudi International, the Asian Tour's season finale, will not go ahead at Riyadh Golf Club on 18-21 November. The BBC reported that the decision followed a review of the organisational and logistical difficulties involved in staging the tournament. The report did not give a replacement date for the event.
Other competitions have been called off entirely. The FIFAe Finals, a Fifa-organised esports series, had been scheduled for Jeddah last month but was cancelled. This week's UCI Urban Cycling World Championships in Riyadh, covering trials and BMX Freestyle, was also called off. A decision on the sporting consequences of the cycling cancellation was still pending, according to the report.
Triathlon organisers have instead announced new dates. On Tuesday, the Professional Triathletes Organisation said the Saudi Arabia T100 and World Triathlon Cup in Jeddah would move from the end of November to 16-17 April. Those revised dates, the tennis exhibition's December schedule and the WTA Finals' relocation represent different responses as sporting bodies adjust events affected by disruption in the region.
