Tanzid Hasan provided the early acceleration after Bangladesh chose to bat, making 83 from 71 deliveries with eight fours and four sixes. He shared an opening partnership of 124 with Shadman Islam. According to The Daily Star's morning-session report, Bangladesh reached lunch at 134-1 from 26 overs, with Shadman unbeaten on 41 and Mominul Haque on five.

Shadman went on to score 67 from 111 balls before Mohammad Saleem dismissed him, ending a second-wicket stand worth 60. Mominul contributed 39, but his departure began a rapid change in the innings. The myKhel scorecard recorded Bangladesh slipping from 221-2 to 225-5 as Mominul, Mushfiqur Rahim and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto fell in succession. Mushfiqur failed to score, while Shanto made 29.

Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz then added 62 for the sixth wicket, taking Bangladesh to 287 before Ismat Alam bowled Miraz for 24. Litton completed the day's third Bangladesh half-century, reaching 53 from 89 balls. His contribution helped rebuild the innings after the three-wicket burst, but he was unable to bat through to the close.

Saleem removed Litton and Hasan Mahmud in the 80th over, adding two late wickets to his earlier dismissal of Shadman. He finished with 3-70 from 19 overs, Afghanistan's best wicket return. Ismat took 2-20 from 12.4 overs, while Yamin Ahmadzai returned 2-62 from 16. Qais Ahmad claimed the other wicket, dismissing Shanto, and ended the day with figures of 1-60.

Nayeem Hasan was unbeaten on 11 from 33 balls at stumps, alongside Taijul Islam on four from 10, the Daily Observer reported. Bangladesh therefore retained two first-innings wickets for the second day, with Afghanistan yet to bat. From the earlier position of 221-2, Bangladesh had added 96 runs while losing six more wickets by the close.
