The first half offered opportunities without a breakthrough. According to TNT Sports' live commentary, Bruno Guimaraes shot narrowly wide from a Timber cutback, while Mikel Merino headed another delivery from the defender straight at goalkeeper Berke Ozer. Merino later volleyed over after Lille failed to clear a Noni Madueke cross. Arsenal reached the interval without converting those openings.
Lille also had a goal disallowed before the break. TNT Sports reported that Ayase Ueda finished after a long-range effort was diverted into his path by Hakon Haraldsson, but an offside decision survived a lengthy check. At the other end, Ozer stopped a Guimaraes shot from distance and recovered to prevent Viktor Gyokeres reaching the rebound, keeping the score level at half-time.
Timber finally put Arsenal ahead after receiving Madueke's pass inside the penalty area. He controlled the ball, evaded Benjamin Andre and lifted his finish past Ozer from an angle. Sports.fr reported that Mikel Arteta then made a planned triple substitution, introducing Saka, Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz for Madueke, Merino and Gyokeres. The changes came with Arsenal already in front but the contest still close.
Saka supplied Eze for the second goal in the 67th minute, with Eze finishing left-footed. Four minutes later, the three substitutes combined for Arsenal's third: Odegaard found Havertz, whose pass back across the area reached Saka for a low finish. The rapid sequence turned a match that had remained goalless for more than an hour into a clear home victory.
AS reported that Lille finished without a shot on target, while former Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud received applause on his return to the Emirates. The visitors remained without a point after two league-phase matches. Arsenal, by contrast, followed their opening win at Napoli with another victory and another clean sheet.
