Brentford beat Tottenham 3-0 in dominant Premier League opener
Brentford began their Premier League campaign with a 3-0 victory over Tottenham at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday, controlling the contest from its early stages. The Guardian reported that Keane Lewis-Potter, Vitaly Janelt and Michael Kayode supplied the goals for Keith Andrews’ side, while Tottenham rarely threatened a response.

The opening goal arrived in the 12th minute after Mamadou Sangaré drove forward on the right and exchanged passes with Igor Thiago. Sangaré then cut the ball back into the area, where Lewis-Potter advanced from left-back and finished from close range. Brentford continued to create openings, with Thiago heading against the crossbar and Dango Ouattara twice getting through without converting.
Brentford doubled their lead before halftime. Mathias Jensen won a challenge with Lucas Bergvall and tested goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, whose save did not carry the ball clear. Janelt reacted first to the rebound and scored, leaving the home side 2-0 ahead at the interval after a first half in which Tottenham’s reshaped defence was repeatedly exposed.
Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi changed his midfield at the break, sending on Rodrigo Bentancur for Bergvall and introducing Mateus Fernandes for his debut in place of Conor Gallagher. The substitutions did not stop Brentford from adding a third four minutes after the restart. Nathan Collins headed a corner down at the far post, Kinsky saved Sangaré’s effort, and Kayode drove the loose ball into the roof of the net.
The margin could have grown after Bentancur fouled Kevin Schade in the penalty area. Thiago took the resulting spot kick but struck the post, keeping the score at 3-0. Tottenham had not fashioned a notable chance until Brentford had already established their three-goal advantage, according to the Guardian’s match report.
Sangaré featured prominently in Brentford’s midfield alongside Janelt and Jensen, helping the hosts disrupt a Tottenham unit that included Bergvall, Gallagher and summer signing Sandro Tonali. The result gave Andrews’ team a convincing opening-day win, while Spurs left west London without a goal despite several new players in their starting lineup.
