Ahmed's route into the professional side included Gloucestershire's academy, the South Asian Cricket Academy and the MCC Young Cricketers programme. He also spent three seasons playing for the county's Second XI before joining the senior squad. Cricket World reported when he signed his previous deal in October 2025 that the agreement ran until October 2026.
His standout first-class innings this year was an unbeaten 90 from 117 deliveries against Middlesex. According to CricTracker, Gloucestershire were 128 for seven before Ahmed and Sai Kishore put on 144 for the eighth wicket, helping secure a draw. Ahmed struck six fours and three sixes in the innings, which remains his highest first-class score.
The all-rounder also contributed to a three-wicket One Day Cup victory over Northamptonshire, taking four wickets for 56 runs and scoring 48 from 38 balls, BBC Sport reported. His Championship bowling brought six wickets during the season. CricTracker also reported that he registered his first List A half-century against Somerset at Taunton.
Director of cricket Jon Lewis pointed to Ahmed's effort to improve and the performances he had produced during the season as reasons to continue investing in him. In comments reported by BBC Sport, Lewis said the extension reflected the club's belief that Ahmed has a future at Gloucestershire. Ahmed, meanwhile, emphasised the importance of the county to both himself and his family.
The next stage of Ahmed's development will include technical work with the coaches over the winter, he said in comments carried by CricTracker. Lewis identified greater consistency as a target for next season and highlighted his wish to develop local players. Ahmed grew up playing at Golden Hill in Bristol, maintaining a connection with the area he now represents professionally.
