Damian Lillard Scores 54 Points as Blazers Defeat Lakers 142-135 in Instant Classic
The superstar guard's explosive performance included 11 three-pointers as Portland handed Los Angeles a devastating blow in the Western Conference playoff race.

Damian Lillard put on an absolute show Tuesday night at Moda Center, erupting for 54 points including 11 three-pointers to lead the Portland Trail Blazers to a spectacular 142-135 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers in what will go down as one of the most thrilling games of the 2026 NBA season.

Lillard was in complete control from the opening tip, shooting 18-of-31 from the field and 11-of-18 from beyond the arc while consistently finding ways to score against the Lakers' defense. The 35-year-old veteran looked every bit like the Dame Time performer who has terrorized opponents throughout his career, hitting impossible shots and taking over the game when his team needed him most.

"Dame was just incredible tonight," Blazers coach Chauncey Billups said after the emotional victory. "When he gets in that kind of zone, there's nothing you can do but sit back and enjoy watching greatness. He carried us on his back and showed why he's one of the most clutch players to ever play this game."

The victory was particularly crucial for Portland's playoff hopes, as they moved within 1.5 games of the final play-in spot in the ultra-competitive Western Conference. LeBron James led the Lakers with 41 points and 12 assists, while Anthony Davis added 33 points and 14 rebounds, but they couldn't overcome Lillard's historic offensive explosion.

Anfernee Simons provided excellent support for Lillard with 28 points and 7 assists, while Jusuf Nurkić dominated the interior with 22 points and 16 rebounds. The Blazers shot 58% from the field and looked like a team capable of making serious noise if they can secure a playoff berth.

The loss represents a crushing blow to the Lakers' championship aspirations, as they now sit just half a game ahead of the surging Trail Blazers with 18 games remaining. Los Angeles entered the season with title expectations but has struggled with consistency throughout the campaign.

Lillard's 54-point outburst was the highest-scoring performance by any player this season and served as a reminder that the veteran guard still has plenty left in the tank. His ability to take over games in crucial moments makes Portland a dangerous team that no opponent wants to face when the stakes are highest.
