Cameron Myers Wins Diamond League 1500m Final in Brussels

Cameron Myers won the men’s 1500m at the Diamond League final in Brussels on Friday, delivering a precisely timed finish to take the title in 3:30.14. The 20-year-old Australian surged through late and dipped at the line, finishing just 0.04 seconds ahead of Kenya’s Phanuel Kipkosgei Koech, who recorded 3:30.18.

The Guardian reported that Myers became the eighth Australian to win a Diamond League final crown. His victory came against a field that included Olympic champions Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Cole Hocker, making the result one of the most significant of Myers’ career so far.

Ingebrigtsen, returning after Achilles surgery in February, controlled the pace for much of the race and remained in contention before fading on the final lap. American Ethan Strand passed the Norwegian in the closing stages and secured third place in 3:30.50. Myers said afterward that he had considered moving on the back straight but waited until a gap appeared before making his decisive run.

The narrow margin underlined how well Myers judged the finish. He remained patient while Ingebrigtsen set the rhythm, then found room in the home straight and reached the line just ahead of Koech. His success provided the leading Australian result on the first night of the Brussels final.

Australia also earned a podium place in the men’s pole vault through Kurtis Marschall. With world record-holder and Olympic champion Armand Duplantis withdrawing before the competition, Marschall cleared 5.82 metres and placed third on countback behind Norway’s Sondre Guttormsen. Germany’s Emmanouil Karalis won with a meet-record clearance of 6.12 metres.

Lachlan Kennedy finished fourth in the men’s 100m in 9.99 seconds with a following wind of 0.1 metres per second, his fifth sub-10-second performance of 2026. Jamaica’s Oblique Seville won in 9.90. Matthew Denny took fourth in the discus with 68.04 metres, while Rose Davies was fourth in the women’s 5,000m in 14:37.47. Georgia Griffith placed sixth in 14:38.69, and Linden Hall ran a personal best of 14:40.62 to finish 10th.
