Wigan started brightly at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle, taking an early 8-0 lead through tries from Bevan French and Liam Marshall. However, Castleford weathered the early storm and gradually found their rhythm. The Tigers hit back before halftime through Jordan Abdull's tactical kicking game and Paul Rowley's men heading into the break level at 8-8.
The second half belonged entirely to Castleford. Substitute hooker Cain Robb made an immediate impact off the bench, providing go-forward that created space for the creative duo of Abdull and Tex Hoy. Castleford's intensity lifted noticeably, and they crossed for three unanswered tries through Hafroz Lopez, Jake Trueman, and a penalty goal to take a commanding 24-8 lead.
Wigan showed fighting spirit late through a consolation try from hooker Mikey Lewis, but Castleford's defense held firm in the closing stages to secure a famous victory.
Rowley praised his side's response after last week's disappointment: "The lads showed tremendous character. We knew Wigan would come hard at us, but we stuck to our structures and executed when it mattered. The energy from our crowd lifted us in that second half."
The result leaves Wigan with two losses from their opening four matches, while Castleford climb to third in the early Super League standings with three wins from four games. The Tigers face Hull FC next week as they look to build on this statement victory.
