Chelsea have turned down Leeds United’s opening season-long loan bid for Mykhailo Mudryk, although talks are continuing. The winger is reported to favour remaining in the Premier League as he rebuilds his match fitness.

Chelsea have rejected Leeds United’s opening offer to take Mykhailo Mudryk on loan for the season, but negotiations over the Ukraine winger are continuing. BBC Sport reported that the proposal fell well short of Chelsea’s expectations, while Mudryk is believed to be interested in a move to Elland Road.

The 25-year-old has agreed to spend the campaign away from Stamford Bridge as he seeks regular football and rebuilds his match fitness. According to the BBC, he has indicated that he would prefer to remain in the Premier League despite interest from clubs elsewhere.

Leeds have emerged as the leading option because they are prepared to complete a loan without an option to buy. That arrangement would allow Chelsea to retain control over Mudryk’s longer-term future, while Leeds would cover his salary during the proposed spell.

Mudryk was out of football for 20 months following a positive test for the banned substance meldonium. His ban ended in July, and he subsequently joined Chelsea’s pre-season preparations under new head coach Xabi Alonso. The attacker made several substitute appearances during the club’s tour as he began working his way back toward competitive fitness.

Other possible destinations remain in the picture. Strasbourg, Chelsea’s sister club within the BlueCo ownership group, are under consideration, while teams in Italy have also shown interest. Brentford were viewed as another potential landing spot, but Chelsea rejected their desire for an option to make a loan permanent. Coventry City have expressed interest as well.

Chelsea signed Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2023 for an initial £61 million. A permanent stay at Stamford Bridge this season is considered unlikely, though it has not been completely ruled out. Leeds, meanwhile, have already added Harry Wilson, Tarik Muharemovic, James Trafford and Nico Elvedi this summer.

The rejected bid therefore does not mark the end of the proposed move. The clubs remain in discussions, with the structure of any agreement central to whether Mudryk joins Leeds. Until revised terms are accepted, his destination for the season remains unresolved.
