Chirewa winner lifts Wolves past Burnley at Turf Moor
Tawanda Chirewa scored in the 72nd minute as Wolverhampton Wanderers came from behind to beat Burnley 2-1 in the Championship at Turf Moor on Friday. Jamie Vardy had put the hosts ahead, but Fer López equalised before half-time and Chirewa supplied the decisive second-half goal after entering as a substitute.

The match timeline records Vardy's opener in the 20th minute, with Jacob Bruun Larsen providing the assist. Wolves responded in the 39th minute through López, whose goal was set up by Sean Neave. That left the teams level at the interval, after Burnley's advantage had lasted for 19 minutes.
Both managers turned to their benches after the hour. Burnley brought on Armando Broja for Vardy and Dastan Satpaev for Bruun Larsen, while Mateus Mané replaced Jean-Ricner Bellegarde for Wolves. Mané then assisted Chirewa's winner. Chirewa had replaced Neave, giving the visitors a decisive contribution from two players who had started among the substitutes.
Wolves had reshaped their starting side before kick-off. The Burnley Express reported six changes from the midweek defeat by Bolton Wanderers, with Adam Armstrong and Raúl Jiménez unavailable and Neave starting in attack. The victory ended a sequence of two league defeats: Wolves had lost 1-0 at Middlesbrough before being beaten 3-1 at home by Bolton.
Burnley's selection included Hjalmar Ekdal in place of Anel Ahmedhodzic. According to the Burnley Express, Ahmedhodzic was absent with concussion following a collision with goalkeeper Grégoire Coudert during Tuesday's 2-2 draw against Charlton Athletic. Ekdal's inclusion was the hosts' only starting change from that match. The Guardian's Press Association report says Burnley's winless home league run has now reached 21 matches.
Burnley next travel to Lincoln City on October 24 before hosting Portsmouth on October 31, according to the club's published fixture list. Friday's defeat means the wait for a league victory at Turf Moor continues beyond this weekend, despite the early lead supplied by Vardy and a starting side largely unchanged from the Charlton draw.
