Chirewa winner lifts Wolves past Burnley in Turf Moor comeback
Tawanda Chirewa scored shortly after coming off the bench as Wolverhampton Wanderers recovered from a goal down to beat Burnley 2-1 at Turf Moor on Friday, October 16. The Championship match was settled in the 72nd minute, after Jamie Vardy's opener for the hosts and Fer Lopez's first-half equaliser, according to the clubs' match reports.

Burnley's account described a promising start for Nicky Hayen's side. Igor sent an early attempt narrowly wide before Jose Sa denied Vardy following an attack involving Largie Ramazani and Jacob Bruun Larsen. Vardy then scored his first goal for Burnley in the 20th minute, converting a through ball from Bruun Larsen to put the home team ahead.
The hosts could not preserve that advantage until the interval. Sean Neave supplied Lopez for the equaliser, recorded in the 39th minute, and the teams went into half-time level. Burnley threatened again early in the second half when Ramazani found Bruun Larsen, but his attempt cleared the crossbar rather than restoring the lead.
Wolves' official report detailed a series of chances as the visitors increased their attacking threat. Gregoire Coudert turned away a Lopez free-kick, then dealt with pressure from corners. Rafiki Said tested him from distance, with Jackson Tchatchoua also forcing a save after the goalkeeper had pushed the initial effort back into play.
Chirewa then provided the decisive finish. Wolves reported that Mateus Mane intercepted Igor's pass before the ball reached the substitute, who advanced towards the penalty area and scored with his second touch despite Coudert making contact with the shot. Tommy Doyle later missed an opportunity to extend the advantage after receiving a cross from Said.
The victory was Wolves' first at Turf Moor in 16 years, according to their club report, and came in their third Championship fixture in six days. The EFL's account placed Wolves sixth and Burnley 21st after the result. Sky Sports reported that Burnley's sequence without a home league victory had now reached 21 matches, extending their wait beyond the one-year mark.
