Mookie Betts Homers Twice as Dodgers Defeat Padres 8-5 in Spring Training Showcase
The All-Star outfielder's pair of home runs highlighted a dominant offensive display as Los Angeles tuned up for the 2026 season opener.

Mookie Betts provided a spectacular preview of what's to come in 2026, launching two towering home runs to power the Los Angeles Dodgers to an impressive 8-5 victory over the San Diego Padres Tuesday afternoon at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona.

Betts was in midseason form from the first pitch, connecting on a 425-foot blast off Padres starter Yu Darvish in the third inning before adding an even more impressive 465-foot rocket off reliever Adrian Morejon in the seventh inning. The two-time World Series champion looked completely locked in at the plate, showcasing the swing adjustments he's made during the offseason.

"I feel really good right now," Betts said after the game. "The work I put in this winter is starting to show up, and my timing feels right where it needs to be. We've got a special group here, and I want to make sure I'm doing my part to help us win another championship."

The 33-year-old superstar finished the afternoon 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs, demonstrating the complete offensive package that made him the 2018 American League MVP. His second home run was particularly impressive, a towering drive that landed well beyond the left-field wall and drew gasps from the capacity crowd at the Dodgers' spring training facility.

Freddie Freeman provided excellent support with three hits and two RBIs, while Max Muncy added a solo home run in the sixth inning. The Dodgers' offensive attack looked midseason-ready as they prepare for what many expect to be another championship-contending season in the National League West.

San Diego received home runs from Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr., but couldn't match Los Angeles's balanced offensive production. The Padres entered spring training with high expectations after an active offseason, but Tuesday's game served as a reminder that the defending division champion Dodgers remain the team to beat in the NL West.

With Opening Day just three weeks away, both teams are using these final spring games to fine-tune their preparation and build chemistry. For the Dodgers, Betts's explosive performance provides early optimism that they're ready to defend their World Series championship and establish themselves as the National League's premier franchise once again.
