Devlin double denies Swansea top spot as Championship rivals collect wins
Swansea missed the opportunity to lead the Championship after Portsmouth scored twice in stoppage time to win 3-1 at Fratton Park on Tuesday. Devlin opened the scoring in the 36th minute, finishing an attack involving Adrian Segecic and Odin Bailey. Swansea drew level through Zan Vipotnik's 85th-minute penalty after Regan Poole pulled his shirt. The visitors then had a chance to turn one point into three, but Ross Stewart struck the crossbar in the 88th minute.
Portsmouth took advantage of that reprieve. Devlin converted following Bailey's corner two minutes into added time, before Tommy Waddingham scored in the 98th minute. The result lifted Portsmouth to 10th and gave them four victories in six games. Swansea's late equaliser had ultimately brought no reward.
Elsewhere, The Guardian reported that Birmingham beat Millwall 3-0 through first-half goals from Alex Cochrane, Max Bird and Jay Stansfield. Cochrane scored inside the opening minute. Birmingham secured their sixth victory in eight matches and extended their unbeaten home start in the Championship to seven games.
Norwich won 4-0 at Derby, with Anthony Musaba, Paris Maghoma and Darlin Yongwa scoring before half-time. Substitute Jovon Makama added the fourth to complete Norwich's third successive victory. Derby have won only once this season, and their latest setback was a fourth defeat in five games under John Eustace.
Sydie Peck supplied all three Sheffield United goals before the interval in a 3-2 win at Preston. Leo Leroy had opened the scoring for the hosts, while Callum Lang's 77th-minute goal reduced the deficit. United recorded consecutive wins for the first time this season.
West Brom and Southampton drew 1-1 at the Hawthorns. Isaac Price's penalty put Albion ahead before Samuel Edozie equalised after the break. Neither side found the winner that would have taken them into the top two.
