Scott Donaldson beat Jordan Brown 4-2 at the Northern Ireland Open to reach his first ranking quarter-final since 2020. He will face Jak Jones in the last eight.

Scott Donaldson reached his first ranking quarter-final in six years by beating Jordan Brown 4-2 at the Northern Ireland Open, BBC Sport reported. The world number 64 secured his place in the last eight at the Waterfront Hall, ending the Antrim player's run in the tournament.

Donaldson took the opening frame before Brown drew level in a closely contested start. The Scot then won two consecutive frames to establish a 3-1 lead and move within one of victory. Brown kept his challenge alive by taking the fifth, but Donaldson won the sixth to complete the result without needing a deciding frame.

It is Donaldson's first appearance in a ranking quarter-final since the 2020 edition of the same event. Speaking to BBC Sport NI, he described a difficult evening against Brown, pointing to tight pockets and an uneven level of confidence in his own game. He said he was playing well only in patches, while emphasising that reaching the next round was the main outcome.

Donaldson will face Jak Jones in the quarter-finals after Jones also won 4-2. Daniel Wells mounted a late recovery in that match, but Jones held on to advance. Their meeting forms part of Friday's last-eight programme, with the opening matches scheduled for 13:00 BST on 23 October, according to the draw published by BBC Sport.

Mark Williams progressed with a 4-0 victory over Martin O'Donnell. The three-time world champion made breaks of 58 and 127 during the win and will next play David Gilbert. Gilbert reached the quarter-finals by defeating Kai Wai Cheung, whose run had included a first-round victory against Ronnie O'Sullivan. Williams therefore advanced without conceding a frame, unlike Donaldson and Jones.

Kyren Wilson had needed a deciding frame to overcome Junxu Pang in Thursday's earlier session. He now meets Anthony McGill as he pursues his first ranking title since defeating Judd Trump in the Players Championship final in March 2025. Sam Craigie and Elliot Slessor complete the quarter-final line-up, leaving all four last-eight pairings settled.
