Edgbaston says the first four days of its 2027 men's Ashes Test are sold out. The announcement comes as BBC Sport examines rising admission costs.

Tickets for the first four days of Edgbaston's 2027 men's Ashes Test have sold out, the venue announced on October 7, as the cost of attending major sporting events draws renewed scrutiny. Edgbaston said a record number of supporters entered its ballot and all tickets available through that public allocation had been taken.

BBC Sport reported on October 8 that the minimum adult price for a day at the Birmingham Test is £115 for non-members, compared with £65 when Edgbaston last hosted an Ashes Test in 2023. That represents a £50 increase over four years. The broadcaster examined cricket alongside tennis, golf and Formula One in its reporting on admission costs.

The BBC also reported objections from local England supporter Lee Hanlon, who said the increase had led him to decide against attending next summer's Test. An Edgbaston spokesperson told the broadcaster that the venue was facing rising costs and seeking to manage them. The spokesperson also said entry-level prices broadly matched inflation since Australia's previous visit in 2023.

The third Test between England and Australia is scheduled for July 8-12, 2027. Edgbaston's earlier ballot announcement had warned that demand was likely to exhaust availability before general sale. Entry was free, successful applicants were not obliged to buy, and the application window closed on September 29 before ticket purchasers were given access.

For supporters who missed out, the venue said club members and unsuccessful ballot applicants would receive priority notification if tickets were returned. It also cautioned that any later release from allocations held for partners or other stakeholders would be very limited. No further public allocation was guaranteed in the announcement.

Other fixtures remain on a separate sales timetable. Edgbaston said general sale for its remaining 2027 major match days would begin at 10am on October 14, subject to availability. Limited tickets remained for men's T20 Finals Day and the men's one-day international against New Zealand, while women's Ashes tickets were available from £22.50.
