El Matador Makes Triumphant Return at Lingfield as Sky Sports Racing Returns
El Matador makes a highly anticipated return to racing at Lingfield, headlining an action-packed afternoon of quality action on Sky Sports Racing as one of the most popular horses in training gears up for what connections hope will be a lucrative summer campaign.
The seven-year-old gelding, trained by John Quinn, has been off the track since sustaining a minor tendon injury in December. The son of Motivator has been carefully brought back to full fitness, and Quinn reports the horse is working better than ever ahead of his seasonal debut in the 1m2f conditions stakes.
"He's done everything right in his preparation," Quinn said. "El Matador has been schooling nicely at home and his work has been very sharp. We're not expecting him to be 100% first time back, but we know he has the class to make a winning return."
The grey has amassed over £280,000 in prize money during his career, with his biggest victory coming in the 2024 Old Rowney Cup at Newbury. His return has attracted plenty of attention from punters, with several firms offering 6-4 about him marking his return with victory.
The Lingfield card also features the return of classy sprinter Brassic in the feature sprint contest, while progressive stayer Midnight Keep aims to continue her winning streak in the staying division. The all-weather track is expected to provide ideal racing conditions, with the polytrack surface in excellent order following recent renovations.
First race time is scheduled for 2:15pm, with the El Matador contesting the 4:15pm feature at approximately 4:15pm. Racing gets underway at 2:15pm with a competitive novice event over seven furlongs.
