Hull Stay Unbeaten After Goalless Draw With Aston Villa

Hull City maintained their unbeaten start to the Premier League season with a 0-0 draw against Aston Villa at the MKM Stadium. The promoted side moved to seven points from three matches and recorded a third consecutive clean sheet after previously beating Manchester United and Coventry City. Villa threatened inside two minutes when Nicolas Jackson headed Ian Maatsen's cross wide. Hull responded through Belloumi on the right, but the visitors registered the game's first effort on target in the 13th minute. George Hemmings' low shot was saved comfortably by Hull goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis.

The visitors created clearer openings after halftime. Captain John McGinn lifted a shot over the crossbar from inside the penalty area in the 50th minute. Three minutes later, Hemmings advanced down the left and cut the ball back to Emiliano Buendia, who also fired over.

Hull produced the closest attempt of the match in the 65th minute. Belloumi collected the ball following a short corner and curled a left-footed shot against the crossbar. The effort kept Aston Villa under pressure in a contest where both sides struggled to turn promising positions into a goal.

There were chances at both ends during the closing stages. Hull substitute Lucas Herrington made an important block from Tyrone Mings on his 19th birthday, while Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki denied Mohamed-Ali Cho from close range. Oli McBurnie then failed to make firm contact with a Ryan Giles cross as Hull pushed for a late winner.

The point continued contrasting early-season trends for the two clubs. Hull have opened their return to the top flight with three positive results, while Villa have not scored in their first three league matches. Manager Sergej Jakirovic, who signed a two-year contract extension on Friday, told The Guardian that Hull had shown they could compete at Premier League level. Villa manager Unai Emery said his rebuilding team needed to improve its finishing.
