Jack Grealish returns to Manchester City action under Enzo Maresca

Jack Grealish has returned to competitive action for Manchester City under new manager Enzo Maresca after his loan spell at Everton ended early through injury. BBC Sport reports that the 30-year-old has featured in both of City's games so far this season and is back to full fitness.

Grealish came off the bench in City's Community Shield defeat by Arsenal before playing the final eight minutes of Sunday's Premier League win over Bournemouth. His involvement marks a change from Pep Guardiola's final season in charge, when City allowed him to spend the campaign at Everton.

The loan began productively. Grealish recorded two goals and six assists in 20 appearances for Everton and won the Premier League's Player of the Month award for August. An injury in January curtailed his season, but he remained on Merseyside for rehabilitation and has since returned to City's squad.

His place at City beyond the September 1 transfer deadline is not settled. BBC Sport says club sources have left three possibilities open: remaining with City, another loan or a permanent move. The same report says City had received no concrete offers at the time of publication, while Everton had not made an approach despite retaining an interest.

Maresca said after the Bournemouth match that Grealish is a City player and that his responsibility is to coach him and seek his best form. The manager nevertheless declined to guarantee that Grealish, or other members of the squad, would remain once the final week of the window had passed.

Everton chief executive Angus Kinnear told BBC Radio Merseyside that the club had stayed in contact with Grealish and highlighted the relationship he developed with Everton supporters and team-mates. Kinnear also welcomed the winger's return to fitness. For now, the confirmed picture is that Grealish is available and contributing at City, while any change of club remains unresolved.
