Jake Doran provisionally barred from athletics after child-related charge
Australian sprinter Jake Doran has been provisionally barred from athletics after being charged in Queensland with indecent treatment of a child under 16, the Guardian reported. The 26-year-old was arrested in Townsville on October 13 and granted bail ahead of a November 5 appearance at Townsville Magistrates Court.

According to the Guardian, police investigations cover January 2025 to September 2026 and remain ongoing. The reported charge is one count involving an indecent film. It is an allegation, not a finding of guilt. The newspaper said it had contacted Doran for comment.
Australian Athletics told the Guardian its provisional action prevents Doran from attending club, state association and national governing-body events, or participating in athletics training. It said he holds no paid or unpaid role with the organisation.
TAFE Queensland has also suspended Doran from duty. Its spokesperson told the Guardian the allegations were understood to be unrelated to his employment, with no indication they concerned students, staff, training delivery or campus activities.
Doran's international career includes a men's 100m semi-final appearance at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, according to Commonwealth Games Australia's athlete profile. That followed a season in which he won the Australian 100m title, the Brisbane Track Classic and the Oceania championships. His first world championships and Commonwealth Games appearances came two weeks apart that year, and he returned to the world championships in Budapest in 2023. Those results established him as an Australian representative at both global and Commonwealth level.
Commonwealth Games Australia also records his development from a late start in athletics at 14 to representing Australia at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas. Raised on Magnetic Island, he later broke the Australian and Oceania under-20 100m record in Finland. His route into senior international competition included work with former Olympic sprinter Paul Di Bella. Away from competition, he was the first recipient of James Cook University's Elite Athlete Scholarship and graduated with an international business degree.
