According to AS, Ellis converted Alex Freeman's delivery in the 29th minute. Canada later struck the post through de Fougerolles, while Julian Hall sent a chance wide for the United States. The Guardian reported that the teams committed 43 fouls between them in a frequently interrupted match.
Pochettino made six changes from the side that started against Mexico, according to U.S. Soccer's official lineup notes. Freeman, Gio Reyna, Chris Richards, Malik Tillman and Auston Trusty retained their places. Richards captained the team for the fourth time, and the starting lineup had an average age of 23 years and 156 days, with an average of 21 international appearances.
Goalkeeper Brian Schwake made his first international start in only his second appearance. His debut had come as a substitute in the 4-2 victory over Chile on September 29. There was also a first start for Mathis Albert, who had appeared from the bench in each of the preceding three matches. At 17 years and 138 days, he was the youngest member of Tuesday's starting team.
The result extended a run that had already included a 3-0 win over Mexico on October 3. U.S. Soccer noted that each of the first three victories featured at least three goals and three different scorers. The Mexico result was also the Americans' first win against a team in the top 10 of the FIFA rankings since they defeated Mexico in November 2021.
Several young attackers had reached milestones before the Canada match. U.S. Soccer recorded Cavan Sullivan as the national team's youngest goalscorer after he scored against Mexico aged 17 years and five days. Hall, meanwhile, had scored in each of his first three international appearances. Ellis supplied the decisive goal as the Americans finished their four-match schedule unbeaten.
