Kansas Jayhawks Face Critical Transfer Portal Window After Heartbreaking Season
Following a 24-11 season and early NCAA Tournament exit, Bill Self and Kansas are in the thick of transfer portal activity as they look to reload for 2026-27.

The Kansas Jayhawks are wasting no time reshaping their roster.

Just weeks after a disappointing end to the 2025-26 season, Kansas basketball finds itself in the midst of a pivotal transfer portal period. With head coach Bill Self entering his 23rd season in Lawrence, the program is working quickly to address departures and identify new talent.

The Jayhawks finished 24-11 this past season but saw their campaign end earlier than expected. Now, the focus shifts to reloading for another run at the Big 12 title.

Several key pieces are expected to move on. Darryn Peterson, projected as a potential top pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, appears headed to the professional ranks. Four-year big man Flory Bidunga is also expected to depart after entering his name in both the transfer portal and the NBA Draft without an agent.

The departures have created openings in the rotation, and Kansas is acting fast. In recent days, Bryson Tiller, Elmarko Jackson, Jamari McDowell, Samis Calderon, and Jayden Dawson have all entered the transfer portal. Paul Mbiya is also expected to follow.

On the recruiting side, the Jayhawks are casting a wide net. Jake Hall, a transfer guard from New Mexico, has generated early interest. Utah guard Terrance Brown, who averaged nearly 20 points per game this season, is expected to visit Lawrence. The 6-foot-3 guard from Portland, Oregon has heard from over 10 programs and is drawing serious attention.

VCU transfer Terrence Hill Jr. held a Zoom call with Kansas coaches and plans an official visit soon. The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 15 points and 2.7 rebounds last season.

Robert Morris forward Dasean Goode is also on the radar, with a meeting scheduled for Monday. Cincinnati center Moustapha Thiam, widely considered a front-runner for the Jayhawk, continues to be monitored.

The pursuit of top talent extends to high school recruits as well. The nation's top 2026 recruit, Tyran Stokes, has Kansas in his top three schools, which could dramatically shift the program's approach to the portal.

With the Big 12 as competitive as ever and Arizona and Iowa State both trending up, the Jayhawks know this portal window is critical. The goal is clear: add enough pieces to position themselves for another deep tournament run.

The transfer portal window remains open, and more movement is expected in the coming days.
