Linfield weighs outside investment amid financial strain
Linfield are considering minority investment or a change of ownership as the club responds to significant financial pressure, chairman Roy McGivern has said. BBC Sport reported that discussions are under way with several parties, although McGivern cautioned that the process would take time.

The chairman linked the strain to Linfield's early departure from European competition. He said the club had expected to advance from its first-round tie and believed it should have done so over the two legs, but elimination created serious financial consequences. McGivern said the board shares supporters' concerns and is trying to address a range of challenges.
McGivern argued that Linfield need outside backing if they are to continue competing at the top of the Irish Premiership. He pointed to Coleraine, Glentoran, Larne and Cliftonville as clubs that have accepted investment, and said Linfield could not afford to remain static while rivals changed their financial models.
No preferred structure has been settled. McGivern said both a minority stake and the possibility of an investor taking total ownership remain on the table. He also acknowledged recent press coverage of a possible link with Rangers, but did not announce an agreement or identify any confirmed investor.
The financial update came during a difficult start to the season and alongside McGivern's support for manager David Healy. Linfield lost 3-0 to Ballymena United on the opening day of the league campaign, after which Healy said he, his staff and players had received unacceptable abuse at Windsor Park and online.
McGivern said supporters were entitled to criticise performances and express frustration, but that personal abuse of the manager, players, staff, directors or other fans crossed a line. He said he had met Healy during the week and that there were no issues between the manager and the board. The chairman's comments leave Linfield pursuing financial options while also attempting to steady the club after a challenging opening to the campaign.
