Olise's late winner gives France six points from two Nations League games

Michael Olise scored in the 88th minute as France beat Belgium 1-0 in Brussels on Monday, maintaining Zinedine Zidane's winning start as national coach. The Nations League result gives France six points from their opening two Group A1 games, both played away from home, while Belgium remain on three.

According to the Guardian's report, Olise ran from his own half before curling a shot beyond Senne Lammens. Its live coverage also recorded Desire Doue hitting the crossbar and Mike Maignan saving from Dodi Lukebakio before the decisive goal.

Zidane had made nine changes to the team that won in Turkey, according to Belgian outlet Starsporttv's team announcement. Only goalkeeper Maignan and defender Maxence Lacroix retained their starting places. Jeremy Jacquet, Andy Diouf and Lucas Da Cunha made their international debuts, while Doue, Bradley Barcola and Esteban Lepaul formed the starting attack. Olise and Ousmane Dembele began on the bench, with Kylian Mbappe absent through injury.

Olise had also helped decide France's opening match. UEFA's account of Friday's 1-0 victory in Turkey credited him with the assist for Mbappe's 54th-minute goal, the captain's 67th for France. Mbappe suffered an injury during that scoring sequence. Maignan had earlier denied Ismail Yuksek, and France protected their advantage through a closing phase in which Turkey goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir was sent off. Monday's result therefore adds a second clean sheet to Zidane's opening record.

Belgium arrived after a 2-0 win over Italy in Rome in Mark van Bommel's first match in charge. UEFA reported that Mika Godts opened the scoring from Kevin De Bruyne's pass before substitute Lukebakio added the second. That result had put Belgium alongside France on three points before their meeting, making Monday's defeat their first dropped points of the campaign.

UEFA's published fixture schedule lists France's next two matches at home: Italy on October 2, followed by Belgium on October 5. The return meeting gives the Belgians another opportunity against France within a week, while Zidane's side will carry their maximum-points start into the Italy game.
