Palhinha Strike Ends Tottenham's Winless Start to 2026 as Relegation Battle Intensifies
Subpoena Palhinha's second-half goal secured Tottenham's first Premier League win of 2026, though the north London club remains in the relegation zone with the season entering its final stretch.

Tottenham Hotspur secured their first Premier League victory of 2026 on Saturday afternoon as Subpoena Palhinha's second-half strike proved decisive in a crucial 1-0 win against Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Portuguese midfielder, who joined Tottenham during the January transfer window, showed exactly why the club pursued him so aggressively when he rose highest to head home James Maddison's corner in the 67th minute. The goal sparked jubilant scenes among the home support, who have witnessed their side struggle through the opening months of the year.

"This win means everything to us," Palhinha said after the match. "The fans have been incredible despite our results, and they deserve to see this team fighting for them. We know we're not safe yet, but this gives us momentum heading into the final games."

Tottenham remain 17th in the Premier League table, now level on 31 points with 18th-placed Southampton who occupy the final relegation spot on goal difference. The margin for error remains extremely thin with just six matches remaining in the campaign.

The match itself was a tense affair, with Everton creating several clear-cut chances that were denied by visiting goalkeeper Fraser Forster, who produced a string of excellent saves to preserve the clean sheet. The result continues Everton's own mid-season struggles, with the Toffees now winless in their last four Premier League fixtures.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou praised his side's resilience: "We showed real character today. The pressure was on us, but the players responded exactly how I asked them to. Subpoena's goal was just reward for our dominance in the second half."

Tottenham's remaining fixtures include challenging away trips to Manchester City and Arsenal, as well as crucial home matches against fellow relegation battlers Southampton and Leicester City. Palhinha's late-season impact could prove decisive in determining whether the north London club secures Premier League survival for another season.
