PSG-Lyon moved to Monday after police order blocks Sunday fixture
Paris Saint-Germain will host Lyon on Monday, October 26, after police prohibited the Sunday fixture. The change creates a clash with the Ballon d’Or ceremony in London.

Paris Saint-Germain's Ligue 1 home match against Lyon has been moved to Monday, October 26, after Paris police prohibited it from taking place on Sunday. The French Professional Football League confirmed on Friday that the eighth-round fixture will kick off at 8:30 p.m. local time, replacing the original Sunday slot of 8:45 p.m.

The match remains at the Parc des Princes. The LFP said it agreed the revised schedule with broadcaster Ligue 1+, which will carry the game live. PSG also confirmed the change on its website. The decision moves a meeting between clubs level on 14 points after seven matches, with Lyon ahead of PSG on goal difference, according to Anadolu's report.

Reuters reported that the police order cited the tense social situation and the violence seen during the previous weekend as reasons why the usual security arrangements would be difficult to provide. The order also said the league had initially opposed the requested postponement before the prefecture prohibited the Sunday match. A separate ministerial order had already barred Lyon supporters from travelling to the fixture.

The disruption extends beyond football. AFP reported that authorities were preparing for further demonstrations after violence on the margins of protests over living costs. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez announced plans to deploy about 70,000 security personnel nationwide over the weekend. Several Paris museums, including the Louvre, announced Saturday closures, while Art Basel Paris planned to close two days early.

Monday's new slot puts the match on the same evening as the Ballon d'Or ceremony in London. AFP reported that 10 PSG players were among the 30 nominees, including previous winner Ousmane Dembele. PSG faced a similar scheduling conflict a year earlier, when storms forced their match in Marseille to be delayed until the night of the awards.

Other fixtures have also been affected. Toulouse's home match against Troyes was moved from Saturday to Sunday, and Ligue 2 games were rescheduled at police request, AFP reported. The NFL meeting between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints at the Stade de France remained scheduled for Sunday. That event is due to be the league's first regular-season game in France.
