Kylian Mbappé scored a penalty for Madrid, with Jude Bellingham and Yan Diomandé also finding the net. The victory kept José Mourinho’s team third in La Liga, three points behind leaders Barcelona. Madrid remain one point behind Atlético Madrid, leaving them behind both rivals despite their latest success.

Barcelona had beaten Alavés 6-1 on Saturday, while Atlético defeated Levante 2-0. Elsewhere in Spain, Athletic Bilbao ended Real Sociedad’s four-game winning run with a 2-1 victory. Inaki Williams and Alex Berenguer supplied Bilbao’s goals before the interval, with Berenguer converting a penalty.

In Italy, Lazio fell behind when M’Bala Nzola scored for Cagliari in the 20th minute. Gustav Isaksen and Andrea Pinamonti answered with goals either side of half-time to secure a sixth successive league victory for Gennaro Gattuso’s team. Lazio and Inter had entered the weekend level on points, but the win put Lazio ahead.

Como returned to the top four with a 1-0 home victory over bottom-placed Venezia, extending their own winning run to five matches in all competitions. Captain Lucas Da Cunha scored the decisive penalty in the 43rd minute. It was his first goal of the season, rewarding a Como side that had dominated the match.

Juventus also won, beating Napoli 2-0 with second-half goals from Kerim Alajbegovic and Jeremie Boga. Napoli had Luca Marianucci sent off after the interval and suffered their fourth defeat of the campaign. The result marked a return to winning ways for Juventus.

In France, Lyon responded to their previous 2-0 loss at Paris Saint-Germain by beating Angers by the same score. Ernest Nuamah and Corentin Tolisso scored in separate halves. Lyon sit third, three points behind PSG and one behind Lille. Paris FC are fourth after a 3-1 victory over Monaco, with Lassine Sinayoko scoring twice late in the first half.
