Rebecca Stokell enters voluntary suspension over medication reporting breach
Ireland batter Rebecca Stokell has voluntarily stepped away from playing while an ICC investigation continues. Cricket Ireland says the prescription-medication reporting breach was unintentional and the substance was not performance-enhancing.

Ireland batter Rebecca Stokell has entered a voluntary suspension after accepting responsibility for a breach of reporting requirements concerning prescription medication. Cricket Ireland confirmed the move in a statement on 2 November, saying she is awaiting the outcome of an International Cricket Council investigation. The governing body described the breach as unintentional and the substance as non-performance-enhancing.

According to BBC Sport, the ICC confirmed that the 26-year-old returned an adverse finding for a specified substance after being tested following Ireland's defeat by Sri Lanka at the Women's T20 World Cup in June. The BBC report said Stokell had acknowledged that she failed to follow the reporting requirements governing her use of prescription medication.

Cricket Ireland said Stokell accepts that suspension is the likely outcome of the case. Her decision to stop playing has come before the investigation's findings, rather than following an announced final sanction. The statement did not name the medication, specify a suspension period or give a date for completion of the ICC process.

Stokell said she accepted her mistake and recognised her responsibility to follow anti-doping requirements, while expressing hope that she could return to international cricket soon. Cricket Ireland's high-performance director, Graeme West, said the organisation had supported her and would continue educating players about their obligations. He stressed that the rules protect both players and the sport.

The interruption comes after 109 international appearances for Ireland across formats, according to BBC Sport. Stokell made her international debut in 2017. The ICC's player profile lists 29 one-day internationals and 80 T20 internationals for the right-handed batter, with 468 ODI runs and 908 T20I runs. Her highest scores in those formats are 57 and 60 respectively.

Her recent international record includes a 54 against England in an ODI on 1 September and a 57 against West Indies on 12 July, according to the ICC profile. It lists her most recent appearance as the ODI against England at Worcester on 6 September. No return date was announced in Cricket Ireland's suspension statement.
