Rodri Completes Barcelona Move on Four-Year Deal

Barcelona have completed the signing of Spain midfielder Rodri from Manchester City on a four-year contract. The Guardian reports that the 30-year-old passed a medical on Tuesday before committing to the Catalan club until June 30, 2030, ending a seven-season spell in Manchester.

The reported agreement starts with a €60 million fee and includes a further €15 million in add-ons. According to The Guardian, €11 million of those additional payments are regarded as virtually guaranteed. Barcelona's third bid was accepted after two earlier offers were rejected, with the clubs reaching an agreement before Rodri travelled to Catalonia.

Rodri arrived at Barcelona's training ground to complete the medical and was subsequently presented with a shirt carrying his first name, Rodrigo, and the year 2030. Barcelona described the midfielder as one of the leading players in his position, highlighting his tactical intelligence, composure in possession, ball-winning ability and passing accuracy.

The move closes a highly successful chapter at Manchester City. Rodri joined the English club from Atlético Madrid in July 2019 and won four Premier League titles during his time at the Etihad Stadium. He also scored the decisive goal against Inter in the 2023 Champions League final, securing City's first title in the competition.

Rodri won the Ballon d'Or in 2024 and entered the final year of his City contract before this transfer. He also captained Spain to the World Cup this summer and was named the tournament's best player, achievements that reinforced his status before Barcelona moved to bring him back to Spanish club football.

In a farewell message published by Manchester City, Rodri thanked the club, its supporters, staff and his teammates, and said Manchester had shaped his life as both a player and a person. His departure gives City a major midfield position to address under new manager Enzo Maresca, while Barcelona add an experienced defensive midfielder with extensive domestic and European honours.
