Shadab Khan century lifts Pakistan past England in record last-wicket chase
Pakistan beat England by one wicket in Lahore on Sunday after Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf added an unbeaten 89 for the final wicket. According to BBC Sport's match report, Shadab finished on 113 not out as Pakistan reached 243-9 in 47.1 overs, chasing 242. England had appeared close to victory when the hosts slipped to 154-9, but could not take the remaining wicket.

Shadab's century came from a position of difficulty well before Rauf joined him. Having been left out of Pakistan's opening two matches in the tri-series, the all-rounder came to the crease at 103-6. He went on to face 96 deliveries, hitting 13 fours and five sixes. BBC Sport reported that his unbeaten 113 was the highest individual score by a number eight in a one-day international.
The decisive partnership also set a record, with the BBC identifying it as the largest last-wicket stand to secure an ODI victory. Rauf contributed seven runs and faced just 19 of the partnership's 80 deliveries as Shadab managed the strike. After defending his first 18 balls, Rauf struck debutant Henry Crocombe for the winning boundary, completing the chase with 17 deliveries remaining.
England had briefly believed the match was over when Shadab, on 97, was given out lbw to Gus Atkinson with Pakistan still needing 21. Players shook hands before Shadab requested a review. The decision was overturned after the technology detected an inside edge, allowing the chase to continue. Rauf also survived a run-out opportunity when Pakistan needed another 18 runs.
Earlier, Ben Duckett had scored 105 from 111 balls in England's total of 241, with Shaheen taking 4-46. Only Duckett, Sam Curran and Atkinson passed 20 as England were bowled out in 46.4 overs. Jamie Overton then returned 3-43, completing his allocation of 10 overs in one spell as England's bowlers brought their side within one wicket of a win.
The result was England's third defeat in as many matches in the tri-series, following their loss to Sri Lanka three days earlier despite scoring 430. Their elimination is not yet confirmed: a Sri Lanka victory over Pakistan on Tuesday would end England's hopes before their final fixture against Sri Lanka on Thursday. Pakistan, meanwhile, secured the win through Shadab and Rauf after losing nine wickets with 88 runs still required.
