Speaking at a press conference ahead of Atletico's crucial La Liga fixture, Simeone addressed the speculation surrounding the 24-year-old Argentine's future. "Arsenal have shown interest in Julian, that much is true," Simeone said. "But he is a fundamental player for us, and we want him to stay. He brings qualities that are rare to find."

Alvarez has been in scintillating form this season, contributing 17 goals and 8 assists across all competitions for Atletico. His performances have attracted attention from several top European clubs, with Arsenal emerging as frontrunners for his signature.

The Gunners are reportedly prepared to trigger the forward's release clause, which is understood to be in the region of €85 million. Mikel Arteta is eager to add firepower to his squad as Arsenal push for a Premier League title challenge next season.

However, Simeone believes Alvarez's development is best served by remaining at Atletico. "Julian has grown tremendously since arriving here. He still has so much room to improve, and I think he understands that working with us can help him reach an even higher level."

The Argentine forward joined Atletico from River Plate in 2022 for an initial fee of around €35 million. He has since become a key figure in Simeone's system, operating both as a central striker and in attacking midfield roles.

Atletico face a fight to hold onto their star man, with the club's hierarchy understood to be preparing a new contract offer to try and persuade Alvarez to commit his future to the Spanish capital.
