Somerset Take Control After Dismissing Glamorgan for 194

Somerset took control of their County Championship match against Glamorgan at Taunton, dismissing the visitors for 194 before reaching 92 without loss by the close on Wednesday. The Guardian reported that Somerset made the most of a day when rain reduced the amount of play available at several other grounds.

Glamorgan had moved to 31 without loss before Somerset found the breakthrough. Wicketkeeper James Rew then took a diving catch to remove Asa Tribe with the score on 44, while Craig Overton later had Mason Crane caught at second slip by Tom Abell as the visitors slipped to 57 for three.

Ben Kellaway provided Glamorgan's main resistance and was the only batter in the innings to pass 50. His stay ended immediately after he reached the landmark, edging Migael Pretorius to first slip with Glamorgan 123 for five. The visitors were eventually bowled out for 194.

Pretorius finished as Somerset's leading wicket-taker with three. Lewis Gregory, Craig Overton and Tom Lammonby claimed two wickets apiece, giving the hosts contributions across the attack. According to The Guardian's account, seven dismissals were completed by slip fielders, with Rew accounting for the remaining catches behind the stumps.

Somerset began their reply under the floodlights but encountered no comparable batting collapse. The weather brightened later in the day, and the hosts advanced to 92 without losing a wicket, leaving them 102 runs behind Glamorgan's first-innings total with all 10 wickets intact. Josh Thomas was part of the opening stand that carried Somerset safely through to stumps.

The position carries added significance in the Division One title race. Somerset began the round second in the table on 144 points, four behind leaders Nottinghamshire, with four matches remaining in the season. Their strong opening day gave them an early advantage while Nottinghamshire's home game against Leicestershire was restricted to 10.3 overs, with the leaders closing on 42 without loss.
