Sunrisers Hyderabad pulled off a dramatic three-wicket victory over Punjab Kings at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in a last-ball thriller that kept IPL 2026 fans on the edge of their seats. Chasing 192 for victory, SRH found themselves needing 6 runs from the final over with just three wickets in hand, setting up a nail-biting finish that had the home crowd erupting in celebration as Marcus Stoinis struck the winning runs on the final delivery.

Punjab Kings had posted a competitive 191-6 after being sent in to bat first, with Shreyas Iyer leading the charge with a scintillating 67 off 42 balls, including three sixes and seven fours. Rilee Rossouw added a quickfire 45 at the top of the order, giving the innings the kind of explosive start that had the visiting side dreaming of a commanding total. For Sunrisers, Varun Aaron claimed 2-32 with his fiery pace, while West Indian pacer Alzarri Joseph chipped in with two wickets of his own to keep the scoring in check during the death overs.

SRH's chase got off to a shaky start as they lost early wickets, but a crucial 78-run partnership between Abhishek Sharma (52) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (41) steadied the ship and gave the home side a real chance of victory. Both batsmen played aggressive cricket, finding the boundary regularly before both falling in the space of three overs midway through the innings. The subsequent middle-order collapse threatened to derail the chase entirely, but an unbeaten 31 from veteran Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis guided the team home on the final ball, keeping his composure when it mattered most.

Stoinis received the Player of the Match award for his nerveless performance under the highest pressure, and reflected on his team's refusal to abandon hope even when the situation appeared dire. The Australian all-rounder emphasised that the wicket was tricky throughout and required complete belief in their plans, with the victory demonstrating the kind of character that defines successful teams in crunch moments. His two sixes in the final over will live long in the memory of the 38,000 spectators who witnessed this thrilling contest at one of cricket's most iconic venues.

The win moves Sunrisers Hyderabad up to fourth place in the IPL standings with 12 points from 10 matches, keeping their playoff ambitions firmly on track with several crucial fixtures remaining. Punjab Kings, meanwhile, remain in seventh place and will need to bounce back quickly if they harbour ambitions of reaching the postseason. The two teams will meet again in Mohali on April 22nd in what promises to be another explosive encounter between two franchises with everything to play for.
