Swansea City have completed the permanent signing of midfielder Tom Iorpenda from Huddersfield Town. The 21-year-old has agreed a three-year contract that includes an option for a further season.

Swansea City have signed midfielder Tom Iorpenda from Huddersfield Town on a permanent transfer. BBC Sport reported that the 21-year-old has agreed a three-year contract with the Championship club, which also holds an option to extend the deal by another 12 months.

The clubs did not disclose the transfer fee. The BBC reported that the deal is believed to be worth about £1 million, while Huddersfield described the payment as substantial. Iorpenda's contract with the League One club had been due to expire at the end of the 2026-27 season.

Swansea head coach Vitor Matos said the new arrival would add different qualities to his midfield. Matos highlighted Iorpenda's ability to carry the ball forward, contribute defensively and find progressive passes. The midfielder is eligible to make a quick debut when unbeaten Swansea host Watford in the Championship on Tuesday evening.

Iorpenda developed in Brighton's youth system before joining Huddersfield in 2021. He spent the 2025-26 season on loan at Notts County, making 53 appearances and scoring three goals as the club secured promotion from League Two through the play-offs. His team-mates and Notts County supporters both selected him as their player of the season.

Huddersfield head coach Martin Drury said he was disappointed that Iorpenda had chosen to leave, believing the club offered a strong environment for his continued development. Drury nevertheless acknowledged the player's ambition and wished him success following the move. Huddersfield said it had reluctantly accepted Swansea's offer.

The signing continues Swansea's rebuild in central midfield following Ethan Galbraith's summer departure for Championship rival Stoke City. Matos had already added Canada international Stephen Eustaquio from Porto, and Eustaquio made his Swansea debut as a substitute in a 3-0 win at Derby. It takes Iorpenda from League One into Championship football following his season in League Two. Iorpenda now joins that reshaped group as Swansea add a young midfielder with recent experience of a successful promotion campaign.
