Switzerland beat Scotland 3-0 after Hendry red card at Hampden

Switzerland defeated Scotland 3-0 at Hampden Park to take six points from their opening two Nations League Group B1 matches. Ricardo Rodríguez, Nico Elvedi and Zeki Amdouni scored against a Scotland side reduced to 10 men early on, according to the Guardian's match report. The result followed Switzerland's away victory over North Macedonia on Saturday.

Jack Hendry's dismissal left Scotland a player short for almost 80 minutes. The defender pulled back Dan Ndoye after the Swiss forward broke through from the halfway line. Referee Nenad Minakovic initially awarded a penalty and showed Hendry a yellow card, but changed both decisions after a video assistant referee review. Switzerland instead received a free-kick outside the area, while Hendry was sent off.

Rodríguez converted the resulting free-kick from 19 yards, beating Angus Gunn to put the visitors ahead. Scotland manager Sébastien Pocognoli responded by replacing striker Kieron Bowie with Stephen Welsh, keeping a three-man defence despite the dismissal. John McGinn later appealed unsuccessfully for a penalty at a Scotland corner, while Switzerland continued to create chances before the interval. Johan Manzambi shot narrowly wide and Gunn saved from Ndoye.

The home side reached half-time one goal behind, with Pocognoli also receiving a yellow card after protesting over a foul on McGinn. Switzerland increased their advantage in the second half following a corner that Scotland failed to clear fully. The ball reached Ndoye on the right, and his low delivery was met by central defender Elvedi, who advanced to finish from close range.

Pocognoli made three substitutions after the second goal. Oli McBurnie finished his 18th Scotland appearance still waiting for his first international goal, while Swiss coach Murat Yakin later withdrew Manzambi. The visitors added a third in the closing stages when Amdouni's shot went into the roof of the net via Gunn, completing the scoring and prompting supporters to leave the stands.

For Scotland, the defeat left them with just one goal across their past five matches. It was Pocognoli's first game in charge at Hampden, following the weekend match in Slovenia. Scotland's upcoming trip to North Macedonia is next in the campaign, while Switzerland have secured maximum points from two away fixtures before playing their first home match in the group.
