Ten-man Lyon go top of Ligue 1 with comeback win over Nice
Watch Highlights
Lyon beat Nice 2-1 despite Keito Nakamura’s late dismissal to lead a five-team group on 14 points. Monaco’s first league defeat of the season kept them from reclaiming top spot.

Lyon moved to the top of Ligue 1 with a 2-1 home victory over Nice on Sunday, recovering from an early deficit before defending their lead with 10 men. According to the Guardian’s European football report, the result left Lyon ahead of Paris Saint-Germain, Paris FC, Lille and Monaco on goal difference, with all five clubs on 14 points.

Elye Wahi put Nice in front in the 18th minute, scoring his second goal of the season. Lyon overturned that advantage before the interval with two goals in three minutes. Pavel Sulc reacted to a rebound to equalise, and Tanner Tessmann then headed the home side ahead. The quick turnaround gave Lyon a lead they would retain through a difficult second half.

Nice came close to drawing level after the break when Axel Witsel’s header struck the crossbar. Lyon’s task became harder with 20 minutes remaining, as Keito Nakamura was sent off for a high boot. Wahi then hit the post with a header from close range, leaving the visitors still searching for a second goal despite their numerical advantage.

The drama continued into stoppage time, when Wahi appeared to have supplied an equaliser. A narrow offside decision ruled out the effort, allowing Lyon to preserve their 2-1 lead and complete the comeback victory. Nice had threatened through both the woodwork and that disallowed goal, but neither changed the score after Tessmann’s first-half header.

Monaco could not return to first place after losing 1-0 away to Lorient, their first league defeat of the campaign. Noah Cadiou scored the decisive second-half penalty, placing the ball into the corner despite goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky diving in the correct direction. That result kept Monaco in the group of five teams sharing the highest points total rather than moving them clear.

Paris FC also joined that group after beating Rennes 4-3, with Lassine Sinayoko converting an injury-time penalty. Rennes forward Estéban Lepaul scored three penalties but still finished on the losing side. Elsewhere in Ligue 1, Marseille beat Angers 5-2 to move away from the relegation zone, while Danny Namaso scored twice in Auxerre’s 3-1 away victory over bottom club Le Havre.
