Tiger Woods Expresses Shock in Bodycam Footage as DUI Arrest Unfolds After Crash
Newly released police video shows the golf legend's surprise at being handcuffed while revealing details about prescription medication and phone call with "the president."

Newly released bodycam footage from Tiger Woods' DUI arrest reveals the golf legend's genuine surprise upon learning he was being taken into custody following a vehicle crash that has prompted him to step away from competitive golf to seek treatment.

The dramatic video shows Martin County Sheriff's deputy Tatiana Levenar informing the 50-year-old golfer of his arrest after conducting field sobriety tests at the scene. "I do believe your normal faculties are impaired, and you're under an unknown substance, so at this time you're under arrest for DUI," Levenar told Woods.

Woods' immediate response captured his shock at the situation: "I'm being arrested?" When the deputy confirmed the arrest, his disbelief was evident as the handcuffs were applied. The footage provides unprecedented insight into a moment that has significantly impacted one of sport's most recognizable figures.

The incident occurred when Woods' Land Rover clipped a truck and rolled onto its side after the golfer became distracted while driving. In the bodycam video, Woods explained to officers that he was "looking down at my phone and changing the radio station" before the crash. "I looked down at my phone, and all of a sudden – boom," he told deputies, describing the sudden impact.

During the arrest, officers discovered prescription medication in Woods' possession. When asked about pills found in his pocket, Woods identified them as "Norco," which was later confirmed to be hydrocodone, a prescription opioid commonly used for pain management. Woods has suffered from chronic back pain requiring multiple surgeries throughout his career.

The footage also captured an intriguing moment when Woods mentioned speaking with "the president" shortly before the incident. While the conversation itself isn't recorded on the bodycam, Woods can be heard saying "thank you, thank you" as he appears to end the call. The identity of the president he referenced remains unclear, though Woods has been in a relationship with Vanessa Trump, Donald Trump's former daughter-in-law, for over a year.

Donald Trump, who awarded Woods the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2019, recently spoke about the incident in an interview with the New York Post. "He tested negative for alcohol, as you know, and he is under tremendous physical pressure from his various ailments," Trump stated. "He lives a life of pain. He has a lot of pain. He's an amazing guy. He's an amazing athlete. He does have pain."

Trump emphasized that Woods "doesn't have an alcohol problem, but he does have pain," highlighting the ongoing physical challenges that have plagued the golf icon throughout his later career.

According to the arrest report, Woods displayed signs of impairment including hiccupping during questioning and difficulty keeping his head still during sobriety tests. Deputy Levenar wrote that based on her observations and training, she believed "Woods normal faculties were impaired, and he was unable to safely operate the motor vehicle."

Woods denied consuming alcohol on the day of the crash but admitted to taking "a few medications" earlier. While a breath test showed no alcohol presence, police reported that Woods refused to provide a urine sample for drug testing. He was released on bail eight hours after his arrest.

The legal proceedings continue with Woods having pleaded not guilty to DUI charges and demanding a jury trial. His case is scheduled to return to court on May 5th for a hearing to assess both parties' readiness for trial.

In response to the incident and its aftermath, Woods announced Tuesday that he is stepping away from golf "to seek treatment and focus on my health." The decision marks another significant interruption to a career already limited by multiple injuries, including a ruptured achilles tendon that has kept him largely sidelined since July 2024.

The bodycam footage provides a sobering reminder of the challenges facing one of golf's greatest champions as he continues battling the physical toll of his legendary career.
